Young Politics

Quincey, Rob, Erica, Jackie, Andy, Brooke and I just had a heated political debate for about an hour. It was funny. If anyone that really knew what they were talking about was there it wouldn't have been as fun. It started out with Andy saying Obama might be the terrorist connection and once he gets into the white house we're all going to die. Weirdest thing is, he was being serious. I fought that one like crazy and smashed most of his arguments.

Then we talked about everything and anything- Hilary, Mitt, education, teachers, Iraq, war, Bush, 911, Rocky, abortion, gay marriage. I faked my way through most of it, throwing out a few random facts that I completely made up every once in a while. I only got called on one of them because I didn't say it with enought confidence. Mostly only Andy, Brooke, Jackie and I did the talking and the other 3 just listened.

Often in discussions like that, group polarization occurs- the two sides just become more and more convinced of their right ness as the argument goes on. Today though, I think we all said things that helped the others consider and reconsider things.

I was very suprised that I had an something to say on almost every subject. It wasn't always strong opinion, but it was material that made me think after I said it. I've always been one of the 3 that just sit and listen when people talk about politics and such. I am usually not confident enough to say a word, but when in the middle of it like today, I was on fire! haha. It was amusing. Any intelligent person could have completely dominated each of us in every way, but when I realized I was one of the more opinionated and stronger debaters there, I went with it. I'm suprised they didn't discredit what I was saying more often.

I kind of wish I had people more learned in politics to talk with.
